Hi there, i recently brought a Vintage Timex wind up watch from the year 1979  (i don't know what model it is, im very new to watches) i recieved it today and winded it to the current time, it started working and then shortly after it stopped, so i left it and then put it back on. It worked again for a short amount of time and stopped again.

this is my very first watch so yes i have no idea, im going to take it to someone who knows what there talking about after the weekend but just wondered if i could get it working myself, i have tried winding it about 20times but it just stops after about five minuties.

cheers

Hi, it sounds like it just needs a service. What happens is that the oils inside dry out and clog the mechanism stopping it from working properly.

Any competent watchmaker should be able to sort it for you.

If it is vintage it could be a manual wind movement.

Give the crown a good wind until it stops and u cannot wind anymore. What may of happened is when you altered the time on the watch, you gave it a short wind giving it some power and after a short while of course it stopped.

You may need to wind it up every couple of days to get power in the movement. Give it a try a nd see if that works before spending money servicing

Regards
