Hi

I have just come into some money and have always promised myself a Swiss Watch. Now i cant decide whether to go for a Cartier Tank Francaise Large Size or a non date stainless steel sub.

Im guessing that the sub will hold its money better but i like the look of the cartier.

Anybody have any ideas, or been in a similar situation. What are the pros and cons of each model?

I think it depends why you are buying the watch - are you buying it with a view to selling it and upgrading in the future or are you planning on keeping it?
Youve got to look at it every day so I would get the one you like the look of most.
It should be easy to get a discount on the cartier but very hard to get a discounted sub(no chance if it was a date version)
Personally I would go for the sub but I like the look of them and have 2 subs and a seadweller amongst my collection.
I had a similar problem about 4 years ago and couldn't decide on getting a bi metal sub or a omega seamaster and ended up buying both - the wife went mad but I found it so hard to choose.

I would go for the Tank simply because its a better looking watch for the price. The movement may be "lesser" but the sub non date is not a chronometre watch anyway and does not compare to the Date Submariner.

Skip the Non Date Sub and go straight for the date Submariner. The ultimate Rolex watch in my opinion. Ive had mine for 6 years and would never sell it. (although I have been tempted by the Green Sub!)

I like the classic design of cartier watches. I have to say i dont think much of Rolex, much over-rated watch. If your after a sports watch then id try Omega.
