I recently heard a claim by a local jeweler that IWC is the third oldest watchmaker in the world. Is this true and who are the oldest and second oldest and when were they established?

I believe Breguet to be the oldest watch firm.  Patek Philippe (founded in 1832) is one of the oldest independent watch house and thus one of the most prestigious.
