Hi

I've decided to take the plunge and treat myself to a quality timepiece.  I've been primarily looking at Rolex (Sub) & Tag (Carrera or Autavia).

At present the Autavia appeals because it is different however one dealer did say that the mechanical movement was not as good (true?).  The Sub is a possibility but I feel I will get bored and also with so many fakes around, the authenticity will I'm sure be questioned.

Also, do I need to take into account resale / future values?  Highly unlikely to sell (more like acquire more!) but I don't want something that will be worthless in the future.

Budget is upto £2.5k - your comments on the above watches and further suggestions are welcome.

Cheers

If you've got 2.5K to spend, I would go for the Rolex. The Tag is an ETA composite chrono based on a 2892. As Breitling have bought Kelek, the only alternative for this kind of movement is the ETA top half, which is frankly laughable, AP use it in the Offshore!!!
Tag also call it a Cal 12, which is a travasty.
Peolpe knock Rolex but to be honest the movements are fantastic, and their intrinsic value is second to none, depending on what you buy.
Your'e best bet is to buy a pre-owned Seadweller, as a watch to wear in any situation, (I think) they are second to none
