Pre-owned apposed to new

Any thoughts people? Has anyone had any good or bad experiances on the subject. What are the general expectations of a pre-owned watch?

if the history is known and verified and the condition good then 2nd hand often makes sense , more so on heavy depreciating watches like Tag Heuer , if I was after something like a Sub or Sea Dweller then I would buy new as you won't save much 2nd hand
