Daytona Cosmograph Advice

I was just wondering if anyone might give me some advice. Its my husbands 30th next year and as he loves watches, but only owns Omegas at present, I really want to splash out and get a nice Rolex.
From what I have seen I want to either get a Daytona Cosmograph, or if I cannot get one, a green bezel special edition submariner. Has anyone got an opinion on which would be better? Also which would depreciate better/worse and could be more of a a vintage 'heirloom' give it 50 years?
Also I hear about these long waiting lists for the Daytona, but have seen one at under £6000 in my local shopping centre's Goldsmiths. I don't want to buy until next year - am I going to have trouble securing one?
Thanks to anyone who takes the trouble to reply!

I have given some info in the other thread
the Daytona is £3670 list but £5.5k to £6k is the going rate from an unauthorused dealer
Goldsmiths being an authorised Rolex dealer really didn't ought to be selling at above list ( the one you have seen may be descibed as 2nd hand )

The STEEL daytona is list prive £3670 and goes for £5999ish at the moment due to a 5year waiting list and high demand, the gold and steel 2tone costs less than the steel at the moment, due to supply and demand! get him a submarinar because they keep their value very well and arent badly priced; daytonas are overpriced at the extortionate addition to list price! i have heard many jewellers say they dont bother with daytonas because they make no money on them!

I spoke to Watches of Switzerland in New Bond Street about ordering a Daytona all-steel. They told me that they stopped doing those particular Rolex types for quite a while now due to the waiting list. They also said that some authorised dealers are now charging above RRP for them. I've decided to go for the two-tone submariner, black face instead. Its the same RRP as the all-steel Daytona, and better value!
On the other hand, if you really want to get that particular model for your husband you can shop abroad! Its cheaper in the US plus you will find certain parts of the US to have in in stock! I'd make some enquiries and perhaps go on a mini-break... with the added bonus of getting something special too!
