Hi,
I currently have an old mido ocean star from my grandfather.
I am looking to buy a rolex with date, can someone please help answer these questions.
1- where can I get a rolex catalogue? jaeger for instance produce a coloured booklet of their watches which contains history and models etc. you can request it from the jaegar website.
2- what's the difference between date and datejust?
3- what is principally different in rolex and tudor?
Thanks
Eric.

The catalogue can be acquired from an authorized dealer , they produce a small square one and a larger A4 one , the small one should be easily available , the larger they should give to serious prospective buyers , the store will also have a more comprehensive catalog which they keep for themselves , this covers all the dial options etc
The date is slightly smaller than the datejust ( between the mid and full size datejusts )
Tudor use Rolex cases but not the in house movements , they use ETA or Valjoux movements normally
Just one last thing , Datejusts should attract a discount 5% on a stainless model 10% on a 1/2 gold , these are based on official watches from a uk authorised dealer
The Datejust depreciates heavily ( by Rolex standards ) so it may be worth considering a good used one

Greg,
Thanks for reply, that is fantastic info.
re depreciation of date just, yes I see your point, perhaps the date model is a better choice, I do prefer the dress type watches than the submariner.
ps I was devastated when my dad sold off his Rolex gmt.

The date will depreciate as badly as the datejust

Greg,
Well it looks like we can't get around the depreciation, how is it for the submariner?
Oh I got the big a4 catlogue the other the day and tried on the sumariner and the datejust. I am starting to favour the submariner, it has that rugged tough look.
Btw it was very funny how the sales girl was very delicate with the watch, oh you should do this and that, well the submariner is suppose to be tough. If I am paying that much for the watch, I expect it will perform pretty much under all conditions, first thing I might do is it in a glass of water overnight.
